Decision making

I am currently in the midst of vacating my current abode and relocating to a new nest with some people unknown to me. After looking around for a considerable amount of time, I have whittled it down to just two houses.

One of them is a quirky, bohemian little apartment above a hairdressers, in an ideal location, with a cool girl. The other is a large house with three other guys and a girl - very social. I have come to the conclusion that they are both perfect for me, in their own individual ways.

After an initial period of sitting on the fence, I realised that my arse was too splintered from being there too long and since then I have switched to tearing my hair out trying to decide which option is best for me...to absolutely no avail.

This has left me in a unique situation; no matter which road I take, I know that I will be happy yet the choice I make will inevitably leave me full of regret, wishing I had chosen the alternative.

So, in a last ditch attempt to save myself from losing out on both, I took to searching for inspirational quotes, and I found that Johann Wolfgang von Goethe says, "Each indecision brings its own delays and days are lost lamenting over lost days. What you can do or think you can do, begin it, for boldness has magic, power, and genius in it."

After taking on those profound words, I have told myself that tonight, I face the music. Or bite the bullet. Or maybe just take the bull by the horns. I haven't decided yet.

REVIEW: NERO - Me and You

Drum and bass duo NERO (who have no relation to the very frustrating CD/DVD Burning software) have served up their latest single 'Me and You' and enlisted the vocal stylings of frequent collaborator Alana.

Although it seems that the single has been around since the start of the year, it only came to my notice today through this week's Triple J's Hit List, so after struggling through 80% of the track, here's my 2 cents...

From the outset, it sounds like a small child has mischievously stolen a keyboard and is sporadically hammering away at the same key, over and over again. However, once you get past this, the synth is smothered by a - I hate to say it, because Nero is probably sick of hearing it - Pendulum-esque drop into space age, drum 'n' bass abyss.

However, it doesn't carry the same weight and authenticity that you would expect from a Pendulum 'classic'; instead it flirts with the idea that it might develop into something epic and clubworthy, but instead sticks with the foreplay for a bit too long, and doesn't quite make it to the main event.

Don't get me wrong, the strong dub-step beat and rumblings are catchy, but they're just that little bit too polished to be taken seriously and instead of becoming a dancefloor favourite; instead it will be more at home in a Final Fantasy trailer.

This is good news.

Actually, this is amazing news.

I, Callum Fitzpatrick, on Monday 21 March 2011, predict that this will change drinking culture in Australia.

Maybe.

Sailor Jerry, the most amazing vanilla flavoured rum in the world, has finally hit mainstream Oz by being introduced to Dan Murphy's.

For those of you that haven't tried it before, pour a shot of SJ over ice, add coke and squeeze in a wedge of lime.

Then, take a sip (or a gulp if you are so inclined) and take the time to realise how good - or not bad - life really is.

And for all you cynics that ask: "why not just add vanilla coke to Havana Club or Bacardi?" or "just drink some Captain Morgan."

Try some SJ for yourself, and shut the fuck up.

Arcade Fire-Ready To Start

If former singles such as ‘Wake Up’ and Keep the Car Running’ should have anything to say, it’s that very the alternative, very niche Arcade Fire can still churn out upbeat pop songs with a twist. ‘Ready To Start’ is no different from this. A thumping drum beat provides the foundation for haunting pianos and hypnotic guitars to support the driving, chugging beat that is akin to an Echo and The Bunnymen and Fleetwood Mac deformation. Proving that Arcade Fire are back with real vigour and vitality

Bit late on the blogging bandwagon? I think so.

I mean, it feels like the trend hasn't been around for very long, yet it already feels a bit dated and out of fashion, I'm not even writing this on an iphone or anything, I'm on an old fashioned laptop.

Oh well, better late than never I suppose, so here goes...
